Mobile Internet means access to the global network via mobile phone. This concept was launched back in 1998 and it got the worst of it, but it is reviving right now. And its fast developments seems not in jeopardy.
Until recently there were no circumstances for the development of mobile Internet. But it has changed: mobile phones has big displays, data transfer costs have been significantly decreased, and numerous websites has been adjusted especially for browsing with mobile devices. These websites are called WAP-sites or WAP-portals, after Wireless Application Protocol, which was designed in above mentioned 1998.
This special adjustment consists of reducing te website by optimizing its texts and multimedia parts and of reconstructing it to shorten its loading time, lower data transfer costs and make it correctly display on hundreds of various mobile phones, various browsers in various resolutions. Biggest screens of the mobile phones are still a few times bigger than desktop monitors or laptop displays.
It is believed, that in 2010 half of human population will have an access to mobile Internet. (source: Informa Telecoms & Media, 2007). Having a WAP-site will be evenly necessary to having a website for each company quite soon. A special .mobi domain has been created and 75.000 new domain names have been registered within first 8 hours.
